Sadly today, I learned of the death of John Wesley (Jack) White of Kamloops, British Columbia. I had not been able to contact him for some time and feared the worst. A news item from his beloved Royal Canadian Mounties confirmed the sad news. He died on February 22, 2011 at the age of 80.
I have not been able to locate a formal obituary notice. I hope one of you will send one. We already know he was a remarkable historian of his family. What I did not know was the vast breadth of his historical interests. He compiled what is likely the definitive history of the members of his Force.
We Hazelbakers and Hasselbachers are his cousins and in the context of this website, we are indebted to Jack for his allowing us to share his remarkable Hazelbaker family history online. To my knowledge, it is the most extensive one available publicly. His gift to us serves as one of his own memorials.
