This plate came up for sale on eBay this week. I tried to buy it, but was outbid. I suspect it was bought by a real Hazelbaker, not a Hazelbaker wanna-be like me. Who knows anything about a Hazelbaker merchant in Youngstown Ohio? The plate is dated 1916.

In the site database, there are two Hazelbakers with initials H.K. but only one of the right age.  He is Homer K., born in Ohio in 1882.  This Homer is the son of Jacob and Rebecca Shaw; Grandson of Abraham and Julia Daniels; and the Great-Grandson of Peter and Elizabeth.

Here is what Jack White wrote in the comments:

In 1900 census was 19 and living with parents In Jefferson Twnshp, Churn Creek Precinct in Adams Co. OH. . Born Aug 1880.  In 1910 was 29 and living in Adams Co. Manchester with wife Ida, 23, and no children.

Virgil Hazelbaker advised that Homer, born in Riply was married to Ida Jones and had the following children born in Ripley:
Garnet  female   md. Dishner - had one girl - nurse in Chicago.
Fay       female   md. and lived Toledo
Joe                   md. Killed in W. W. II
Gean                deceased died in late teens or early 20's
Jack            Believe he was adopted - and possibly deceased - lived in Brown or Clermont Co.
first wife deceased and remarried - had a store out of Mt. Orap, Ohio close to green

If you can help identify the H.K. Hazelbaker who gave this plate to a customer in 1916, send me an email and tell us his story!
