It's a long way to Tipperary!

In truth, I had largely given up hope that I would ever find where in Ireland Kate came from. Even a visit to the port once named Queenstown (today Cobh) while full of interesting historical displays, did not give me much encouragement. As these things keep happening to me, while I was renewing my subscription to ancestry.com, I was notified that they had a new collection of Irish Catholic Baptismal registries on-line. I entered the pitiful few facts that I had, and to my wonderment, a perfect fit popped up!

Here is a detail of the entry:

All but the name of the specific place they lived, Mohora, is still present on Maps of Ireland. I am in hopes that when I write or visit, the old site can be identified. On the map today, the place names in the area identify single or a handful of houses. I am also in hopes that the old church-books with the full entries are still around.  With luck, there will be civil records of life or immigration. Browsing through the registry, there seem to be other children of John and Bridget, although not in exactly the same location.

Here are some maps that will place Anacarty and Donohill.

You can explore these places on your own with Google maps and look at the areal photos and local photographs as well.

As you can imaging, I was pretty excited to find this record. I still want to find some confirmatory evidence that this is Kate, but this opens a new door wide.

Here is the text of a letter I sent to the known descendants of Kate Burke Beaver.
