Johann Helfer and his wife Maria are recorded as the parents of 8 children for whom I have been able to find baptismal records. The first of these children was my 7G Grandfather Andreas who has a baptismal page of his own from 1628.  I have no additional information about the other children and will place them all on this page. I have not waded through the death records which give little information and no age at death.

Eva 1631

I found this record with the others but did not know what to do with it originally. Eva's record is at the bottom.  I leave others for comparison. I recognize the name Helfer, but do not see a mother's name and I do understand the word between baptizani and Helfer.  On reflection and not wanting to leave it out, I have placed it here. The date of the birth allows it to fit between between Andreas and Maria. Note too that the godmother is the same as for Maria and Anna. Perhaps with additional study I will figure out the unknown word and be even more confident. Note the mix of both Latin and old German scripts. Makes it interesting!

Maria 1632

Her name towards the end of the second line is spelled Mariam.  I notice that an 'm' is often added to names that do not usually have one. I am assuming Maria but I suppose Miriam is also possible.

Michael 1633

Michael's record is the lower one.  I leave the preceding one to show how I have to figure our the dates sometimes. 23 7bris is the 23d of September. (Xbris is Dec, 9bris Nov, and so forth.) Note that the parents names are given first in these years. "Joanni Helfer of bach baptize child (filium?) *** Maria, named Michäelim.  Godfather (name) from (place).  I recognize I need help with these!

Thomas 1636

Part of the date is lost in the binding. His godfather is Melchior from Bach. I found the record below by accident in Edenried. A Thomas Helfer was a witness at a 1671 wedding there. He could be the same Thomas. (My Bayerls went to Edenried in the 1700s.) Where is Wolferhausen?

Anna 1638

Godmother is Anna ?Sodlmaÿr.   I have a marriage record for an Anna Helfer of Bach to Jacob Fischer on 9 May 1661.   The Anna above would have been 23. A good fit.

Peter 1640

Peter's is the lower entry. His name is spelled Petrus; Johanni Helfer & Maria. It took me a while to recognize Peter's name, but this is reinforced by comparison with other records.

Melchior 1643

You can be the judge of the name in the lower record. Melchior is my best guess.  Note that his godfather is also named Melchior and is the same person who stood in at the baptism of Peter above.

Mathias 1644

Lower record. Same date as upper in Baach. Baptiz. Matthias, filig Joannis Helfer de Bach & Maria.
Patring Melchior S**** (can't make out the rest)
