I recently had the occasion to take another look at the early church records of Affing. I hoped that with my increased familiarity with the records of this region there would be more to learn. There was (and always is) but the incremental gains so far are minimal.

I looked carefully through the earliest baptism, marriage, and death records from 1718 through 1748. (See the bottom of this page.)  The more modern church official who prepared an index of these records identified two Bayerl baptisms: in 1718 and 1744. I had seen these before but was not fully convinced the identification was correct. I now believe this interpretation in the index is reasonable albeit not conclusive. ( I could not find any alternatives.) The writing and spelling are not all that dissimilar from some of the contemporary records in Edenried. I could not then, nor can I now make any connection to known family members. These appear to be isolated records.

The earliest record is April 3, 1718. It is the baptism of Maria whose father's name I cannot make out (but maybe Marcus) from Katzenthal. (This village is the next one up the road north-east from Affing.) I cannot interpret the name of the mother or Maria the godmother. There appears to be a cross next to the date, and if so this indicates that the child died in infancy.

The second record below is dated November 4, 1744. (Red dot.) It is the baptism of Maria Theresa. Again I struggle with this handwriting. The father's name maybe Cato, a farmer in a village I cannot make out. The mother's name is Barbara. The cross by the date would indicate that the child died in infancy

.

One thing that is confirmed in these records is that the hamlet of Frecholzhausen is included within the parish of Affing. It was very easy to find numerous instances of parishioners from Frecholzhausen. [Addendum: The name was originally spelled Frechetshausen.] An example is underlined above in blue.  A published history of the diocese of Augsburg confirms this relationship. I could not identify any names from Edenried in these early Affing church books.
